What Makes This Booklet Special?

The Practical Biologist offers students and educators:

  • Engaging, practical activities for all stages of secondary education.
  • Expert insights from renowned institutions shaping the future of biology.
  • Free resources from passionate organisations dedicated to science education.

Contributors include the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS), CLEAPSS, Linnean Society of London, Royal Entomological Society, Culture Collection of Algae & Protozoa, MiSAC, Science & Plants for Schools, Darwin Biological, Field Studies Council, ASE, and the Mammal Society.

Why It Matters

“We believe that biology should be exciting, accessible, and sustainable,” says Meg Bilson, founder of Darwin Biological. “By working with great British partners, we can utilise their expertise and showcase the amazing free resources they have to offer schools.”

From fascinating experiments using slime mould to troubleshooting the classic pondweed photosynthesis practical, this booklet is designed to be accessible regardless of expertise or budget. It reflects Darwin Biological’s commitment to excellence in science education and its mission to foster curiosity and critical thinking in classrooms nationwide.

Where to Find It

Copies of The Practical Biologist are arriving in 4,500 UK secondary schools this week. It’s also free to view online.
